Bengaluru: Govt plans to establish Atal Tinkering Labs in all schools, says DCM

Bengaluru, Mar 6: Deputy Chief Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, who is also the Higher Education Minister, said the State Government plans to establish Atal Tinkering Laboratories in all schools in order to inculcate the scientific temper and innovative spirit in school children.

He was speaking at a function after inaugurating the Atal Tinkering Lab in the Malleswaram Government Boys High School on Saturday.

The Deputy Chief Minister said the country’s education sector had witnessed reforms at the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The concept of Atal Tinkering Lab plays an important role in the development of learning abilities in the school children besides inculcating innovative spirit, he said.

Pointing out that the State Government proposes to establish the Atal Tinkering Labs in all schools. If sufficient space was not available in some schools, he said there were plans to establish such labs in schools where large space was available in the cluster model as students of schools neighbouring areas could benefit.

The education sector is witnessing comprehensive reforms from nursery and primary school level as the National Education Policy would facilitate such efforts, he said.

The Higher Education Minister said Bengaluru city has emerged as one of the top 10 cities in the world and wanted the education sector to transform itself accordingly.

Dr Ashwath Narayan said the educational standards and capabilities must improve from the primary level itself as young children have the ability to learn multiple languages and complex subjects.

He pointed out that some countries have started imparting satellite based education from the higher secondary stage and even launching of satellites is being done from schools. This kind of development is taking place in the country with some engineering colleges in the State undertaking development of satellites.

Appreciating the cooperation extended by Dell Technologies in establishing the Atal Tinkering Lab in the Malleswaram Government Boys High School in Malleswaram, he urged the private sector to come forward for collaboration and support in improving government schools in the State.
