Barkur native Sweezal Furtado one of six winners of Ignite India Meraki Fashion Competition

Udupi, Mar 8: Sweezal Furtado from Barkur has won the Ignite India Meraki Fashion Competition along with other five people in a glittering event that was held at JW Marriot in Bengaluru, on February 25, 2021.

The top six winners of the Ignite India Meraki Fashion Competition are -- Nayomi Liz Thomas Kuruvilla from Delhi Public School, Bengaluru; Saasha Joshua from Deens Academy, Bengaluru; Riddhi Juyal from Christ Junior College, Bengaluru; Sweezal Furtado and Harika Reddy from Mount Carmel PU College, Bengaluru; were given the golden chance to walk the ramp along with the Industry's top runway models.

Born in 2004, 16-year-old Sweezal has been an active and talented girl from a very young age. She had participated in several cultural programs organised by KONCAB at Bengaluru level and won several prizes. In 2019, she participated in the Kavita Trust Poetry Recitation competition and was selected to compete at the national level. She is also a talented dancer. Her dance snippet to the famous song 'Nach Meri Rani' was even tagged by the famous singer Guru Randhawa. She is currently studying at Mount Carmel PU College, Bengaluru and also pursuing her training in fashion.

Sweezal has also been selected for the finals of Miss Teen India that will be held in Delhi in the month of June/July.

Sweezal had an interest in fashion from a very early age and has been undergoing coaching since her high school days. At just 16, she has already made a big mark in the fashion industry.

Ignite India Education, as the name suggests, was inspired by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s vision of India beyond 2020. This institute works with youth and prepares them for national level entrance examinations in the area of fashion technology, art and design. The Meraki Fashion competition involves designing fashion wear using creativity, innovation, ability to manage within given time constraints and judges the material handling skills. In addition, it also involves writing a concept of the design. Six of the girls, who won the competition, were given an opportunity to walk the ramp to showcase the collection by Govind Kumar Singh, who is also the founder of Ignite India.
