Puttur, Mar 15: Pre-University Educational Board in collaboration with St Philomena PU (SPPU) College on March 13 organized a district level Kabaddi tournament for Pre-University boys and girls on 13/03/2021. The dignitaries inaugurated the tournament by lighting a lamp.
The president, Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas, correspondent of St Philomena PU College in his presidential remarks said that sports can bring a bunch of benefits for youth, including general health, together with blood circulation and overall physical stamina improvement. He added that sports develops and improves people’s physical, social and organizational skills, which are beneficial in personal and professional life.
The inaugurator, N Chandrahasa Shetty, an alumnus and an honorary president of Amateur Kabaddi Association, Puttur taluk said that Kabaddi helps students to access inner strength that allows them to face overwhelming fears, frustrations, and challenges of everyday life.
16 teams participated in the tournament
Maurice Mascarenhas, the vice-president of the Parish Pastoral Council, Puttur, Professor Leo Noronha, principal of St Philomena College, Puttur, Rajesh Mooliya, physical director of St Philomena PU College were present on the occasion.
Fr Vijay Lobo, the principal of St Philomena PU College, Puttur welcomed the gathering. Elias Pinto, the physical director of St Philomena College proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Asha Savithri from the department of Hindi compered the programme.
The valedictory programme of the district level Kabaddi tournament was held on March 13 at St Philomena PU College.
The chief guest, Prashanth Rai, Kaikara, an alumnus and Kabaddi player of the pro-Kabaddi team and an employee at Bank of Baroda said that Kabaddi is an old game and it takes energy, dedication and strategy. He added that Kabaddi teaches discipline and increases the sportsmanship inside the player.
The chief guest, Sukesh Hegde, Kabaddi player, Pro-Kabaddi team said that Kabaddi enhances physical ability and mental strength. It helps to increase breathing capacity and endurance. He added that it teaches team spirit and working in coordination with teammates.
On the occasion, 4 gems of the college were felicitated
Prashanth Rai Kaikara, an alumnus and Kabaddi player of Pro-Kabaddi team, Sukesh Hegde, Kabaddi player of Pro-Kabaddi team, Habib coach of St Philomena College and Raksha Anchan was felicitated for her tremendous achievement in sports and NCC. She received L/o Banari GopalaKrishna Bhat endowment cash prize.
Elias Pinto, physical director of St Philomena College and Rajesh Mooliya, physical director of St Philomena PU College were present on the occasion.
The winners were honored on this occasion.
In the boys' team, the winners' trophy was bagged by Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara PU College Ujire, Belthangadi and the runners' trophy was bagged by Vikas PU College, Mangaluru. Prajwal of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara PU College Ujire, Belthangadi bagged the Best Rider trophy, Afrid of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara PU College Ujire, Belthangadi bagged the Best Catcher trophy, All Rounder Trophy was bagged by Sanjay of Vikas PU College, Mangaluru.
In the girls' team, the winners' trophy was bagged by Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara PU College, Ujire, Belthangadi and the runners trophy was bagged by Alva's PU College, Moodbidri.
Rajeshwari of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara PU College Ujire, Beltangadi secured the Best Rider trophy, Lalita, Alva's PU College, Moodbidri, bagged the Best Catcher trophy, All Rounder Trophy was bagged by Veekshitha of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara PU College, Ujire, Beltangadi.
