Udupi, Mar 16: Deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha has asked officials to take suitable precautions to prevent drinking water scarcity in summer.

Presiding over the meeting of disaster management authority at the office of deputy commissioner on Tuesday, he asked concerned officials to identify the villages where water scarcity is likely.

He further asked the officials to obtain the opinion of engineers from the drinking water supply department and prepare tenders to supply water through tankers during scarcity. "Take private bore wells on rent as far as possible and supply water," he said told the tahsildars.

"Identify the areas that are prone to floods and prepare maps. Send a proposal to the government for equipment necessary during natural calamities. Supply such equipment to the gram panchayats that need them," he added.

Kundapur sub-divisional officer Raju, Aruna Prabha, municipal council commissioner Udaya Shetty, Ravi Ojanahalli and various department officials were present.
