Udupi, Mar 16: Dr TMA Pai Hospital which was functioning as the dedicated COVID-19 hospital of Udupi district until October 2020, celebrated International Women's Day with enthusiasm and felicitated all the COVID warriors of the hospital.
In the event organized at the Town Hall of Udupi at Brahmagiri on March 11, Kusuma Venkatesh, a renowned educationist, and Dr Parvati V Bhat, former medical superintendent of Dr TMA Pai Hospital were the chief guests. Dr Sharath Kumar Rao, dean of KMC Manipal and Dr Ullas Kamath, dean of MMMC Manipal were the guests of honour.
Dr Shashikiran Umakanth, medical superintendent of Dr TMA Pai Hospital welcomed the guests and said that he is proud of all the COVID warriors of the hospital as they did extraordinary hard work during the pandemic. He also noted that most of the COVID warriors in the hospital were women, which gives the right message to the society about the importance and contribution of women during tough times.
Kusuma Venkatesh thanked Dr TMA Pai Hospital and all the COVID warriors for the leadership shown during the pandemic. She shared her valuable views about the contribution of women to society, welfare of women and women empowerment.
Dr Parvati Bhat congratulated the hospital for the excellent work done during the pandemic. She was felicitated during the event for her immense contribution to the hospital when she was the medical superintendent for 17 years, until May 2020.
Dr Sharath Kumar Rao narrated the pivotal role of the public-private partnership in Udupi district that was primarily responsible for the exceptional outcome of COVID-19 patients, including a very low mortality rate, in Udupi district.
CG Muthana, chief operating officer of Manipal Teaching Hospitals, Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent of Kasturba Hospital Manipal, Dr Padmaraj Hegde, deputy medical superintendent of Kasturba Hospital Manipal, Dr Kirthinath Ballal, chief medical officer of Dr TMA Pai Rotary Hospital Karkala, and Dr Suba Sooria, head of Nursing Services of Kasturba Hospital Manipal, were also present during the event.
COVID-19 warriors of the hospital, including nurses, technicians and housekeeping staff, presented 90 minutes of entertainment and cultural programs that included dances, songs and skits that also focused on women empowerment. All the COVID warriors of the hospital attended the recent except those who were on emergency duty at the hospital.
Dr Archana Bhaktha compered the event and was the master of ceremonies. Deepak Prabhu, senior operations manager of the hospital thanked everyone for their teamwork and the support from Kasturba Hospital Manipal during the pandemic and while conducting the event. The program ended with a vote of thanks by Dr Rajaram Pai, deputy medical superintendent of the hospital.
