China's Handprint Scroll Sets New World Record

Beijing, Jul 16 (IANS): A scroll featuring more than 40,000 handprints from China's Jilin province has been officially named the largest handprint scroll in the world by the Guinness World Records.

The waterproof scroll, measuring 3,715.86 square metres, was demonstrated at the opening of the third Changchun international automobile festival Thursday in Changchun.

After nearly four hours of measuring the scroll, Wu Xiaohong, an official for the Guinness World Records, announced that the scroll has set a new world record, Xinhua reported.

The handprint scroll is 115.86 square metres larger than the previous world record holder from India.

"Everyone's handprints are different. We made the scroll to show local people's good wishes for the future of their hometown," an organiser of the festival said.

Changchun is a major automobile manufacturing base in China.
