Kuwait: Accidents Fail to Deter Families from Road Trips

KUWAIT, Jul 17 (Kuwait Times): It is the vacation season in Kuwait. Air travel is commonly opted for and is generally considered the safest means of travel. This is especially so after a recent tragic incident where all members of a Kuwaiti family perished in a fatal accident that took place in Saudi Arabia. This incident has had a negative effect on those who take trips by car during summer. Travelers are now wary of the hidden dangers that they may have to encounter by taking the land route.

Most back out owing to the risk factor involved. It is, however, a more cost-effective method. Many safety measures can be adopted. Most are related to ensuring that the vehicles do not suffer from mechanical failure. Even though the roads are deserted, accidents appear to be common place and fatal. Abu Ahmad, a Jordanian expat who frequently undertakes such road trips explains that it is easier to travel this way, if the vehicle is well-equipped and maintained properly. Some accidents are caused by t
hose drivers that doze off while driving at night, he said.

He pointed out, though, to the delay that could occur on while crossing the Saudi border. This happens, as he explained, to buses that carry passengers and not cars. Buses that pass through Saudi lands and other borders are subject to strict security checks as smuggling cases have been detected.

On the other hand, Hassan, who travels by his car with his family says that accidents occur because of technical glitches. People are not aware of speed limits. People cross speed limits out of fear at halting at uncertain spots. He stated that the road that pass through Saudi Arabia are the safest where cases of mugging and theft are rare. He added that he prefers to drive at night when the roads are properly lit. During the day, he is usually surprised to be overtaken by other motorists. Despite of in
creasing number road accidents, many still prefer travelling to their home countries or taking trips by cars. They consider it a more enjoyable activity which is also easy on their wallets.
