Mangaluru: Administration determined to take back swindled government land

Mangaluru, Mar 23: Dakshina Kannada district administration has decided to take a tough stance in taking back government lands that have been taken over by private parties without any authorization. 782 such cases have been unearthed by the administration in the district. In 431 cases, the encroachers have been evicted. In the case of remaining encroachments, the administration is initiating steps to act against the guilty.

As per the information with the district administration, 2,467.37 acres of land was usurped in 782 cases. Out of them, 1,415.82 acres pertaining to 431 cases have been taken back. As 351 cases are pending, the remaining 1,051.55 acres are yet to be vacated and taken over.

Over 13.13 acres in Mulky, 1,177.88 acres in Kadaba, were identified. In Sullia 366.47 acres of land pertaining to 110 cases have not yet been vacated, 521.89 acres encroached in Mangaluru taluk, 139.21 acres in Bantwal, 34.54 acres in Moodbidri. In Puttur and Beltangady taluks, all the identified encroachments have been evacuated, the administration stated.

There has been a shortage of land in the Dakshina Kannada district to execute housing and other government projects. There were allegations that the department had nexus with government land encroachers. Now the district administration has undertaken this driven and succeeded to a considerable extent.
