Oman: Fashion Show to Focus on Omani Women

MUSCAT, Jul 23 (Times of Oman): In commemoration of the 40 years of Renaissance in Oman, Light and Shadow Enterprises LLC would present a celebration of an all-Omani fashion show. The show titled ‘L&S’s Omani Women’s Fashion Trends’, will highlight Omani fashion through the years, going as far back as 40 years.

“Being an events agency that focuses primarily on fashion and music, it was befitting that we celebrate 40 years of this glorious country by showcasing fashion trends of the last four decades,” said Shruti Chowdhary, director, L&S.

The show will feature four designers – two established and two upcoming – who will exhibit their designs, even as they display designs that were in vogue 40 years ago. Each designer will show 10 designs, with one design in each segment being in keeping with theme of the 40th National Day.

Changing trends

“With my knowledge and what I have seen over the past 12 years in Oman, fashion trends have changed considerably in terms of design, colours and styles even while maintaining their connect with tradition and their leaning towards classy style,” adds Shruti.

This will be reflected in the show that will feature designers such as Amal Al Raisi. The show, to be held in mid-September at the Jibreen Ballroom, InterContinental Muscat. As is increasingly happening, this show too is all-Omani. “That is something that I am rather proud of,” says Shruti, whose baby this is.

“From the designers to the models, every one will be Omani. Choreographing and training the models is former model Ghaniya Saleh Al Farsi herself. It is only to celebrate everything that this country stands for while marking the 40th year of His Majesty’s current rule.”

The show will be followed by an auction-cum-sale of the designs and the proceeds from the show will go towards a charity that will focus on supporting the women of Oman, but one which L&S is yet to decide on.

The show, while celebrating the occasion, also hopes to showcase how far the Omani woman has come in this time. “Our intention is to showcase the different styles of Omani culture through the fashion. We also want to highlight the level of success the Omani woman has achieved today. “To be honest, it’s not about what we want from the show; it’s more about honouring the vision that His Majesty has had through these 40 years for the women of Oman and how they have achieved it,” says Shruti.

As the show is still in planning changes, L&S is looking forward to finding designers who want to be part of this show.
