Tharoor says 'sorry' for slamming Modi on Bangladesh speech

New Delhi, Mar 27 (IANS): Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor on Saturday admitted his mistake and said "sorry" for slamming Prime Minister Narendra Modi for omitting former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's role in the freedom of Bangladesh.

In a tweet, Tharoor admitted his mistake and wrote, "I don't mind admitting when I'm wrong. Yesterday, on the basis of a quick reading of headlines and tweets, I tweeted "everyone knows who liberated Bangladesh," implying that Narendra Modi had omitted to acknowledge Indira Gandhi. It turns out he did: Sorry!"

He also attached a news report which quoted the Prime Minister for hailing the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for her contribution to the freedom of Bangladesh.

Modi said, "Indira Gandhi's contribution to the freedom of Bangladesh is publicly known."

On Friday, while taking a pot shot at Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Bangladesh, his first foreign visit amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Tharoor has slammed the Prime Minister.

Bangladesh won its independence in 1971 following a brief war between India and Pakistan.

Tharoor is a gentleman and we need more politicians like him. I wish he should have been in BJP, but Congress requires him more because there is a shortage of gentlemen there!

I strictly instruct Tharoor ji to meet Modi ji personally and apologies to him and also want him to meet Amit Shah ji and call for an all India party meeting and apologies in front of national media and also write an apology letter in Hindi ,Urdu and Bengali and I also instruct Tharoor ji to do some productive work instead always waiting to comment in his polished English to criticize Modi ji and this is my order

The BJP leaders might be laughing their pants off. They do not need any strategy to fight or counter Congress. Its never been so easy. Just sit back and relax as the Grand old party from the President to the panchayat level karyakarta score self goals after goals. Every speech , Every tweet, Every action is a gaffe . Eventually end up as laughing stock. You cannot blame God and Modi for everything. I think the next apology will be from RaGa on his remark of RSS. Just wait for a couple of weeks.
