Udupi, Apr 5: Kalmadi Babu K, known as Babanna, lived in a house made of tarpaulin and coconut fronds fixed over a few stone pillars for the last 80 years, braving summer and monsoon seasons. Babanna, a dalit, has now got a new house of his own, named 'Ayodhye'. The house, provided with the help of donors, received a free power connection on behalf of Asare Charitable Trust, Kadiyali here.
The cost of the house construction has been funded fully by Ashwin Nayak Moodubelle, owner of Shantheri Kamalkshi General Stores, Moodubelle, on the occasion of his birthday.
Speaking on the occasion, chairman of Udupi Urban Development Authority and general secretary of Asare Charitable Trust, K Raghavendra Kini, said that the dream project of prime minister, Narendra Modi, 'Ghar Ghar Bijli' has been successfully moving ahead. He said that by 2021, Udupi will have 100 percent electrification for all the houses, and it will be the first city with total electrification to all the houses.
Kalmadi ward municipal councillor, Sundar J Kalmadi, Asare Charitable Trust treasurer, Satish Kulal, Kadiyali Sarvajanika Ganeshotasava Samiti members, Rakesh Jogi, Ranjit Kalmadi and locals were present. Ashwath Devadiga of Mahishamardini Electricals, Kadiyali, attended to the electrification of the house.
