Damages reported due to heavy rain in Mangaluru, Udupi

Mangaluru/Udupi, Apr 13: Thunderstorm accompanied with rain lashed Mangaluru and Udupi, late night on Monday April 12.

Due to strong wind and rain, the compound wall of an apartment complex at Kodical here collapsed.

The crashed compound wall inflicted damages to the houses of Nadiguthu compound at fourth B cross, Kodical belonging to Mohandas Bangera, Poornima and Devadas Bangera.

The crash appears to have occurred due to the washing away of sand forming the base of the compound wall.

Severe damages were reported due to rains in Udupi district as well. The district reported severe rains on Monday night and early morning on Tuesday.

A house belonging to Nagarathna Bhujanga Shetty in Brahmavar taluk was damaged due to lightning. There were six persons in the house when the incident occurred. A women was injured. Many household equipment was damaged.

Many parts of Kaup, Udupi and Karkala taluk received good rainfall.

A tree was uprooted in Kemmannu. The tree fell into the main road blocking traffic. Local panchayat members and locals cleared the tree from the road.

Coastal districts are expected to receive rains for the next five days as per the information from the meteorological department.
