Bengaluru, Apr 14: Karnataka chief minister (CM), B S Yediyurappa, left instructions to the officials to further tighten the night curfew that has been imposed on a trial basis in ten cities of the state. He held a meeting with senior officers at his official residence, 'Kaveri' on Ugadi day, April 13, and issued directions.

The meeting was attended by the state chief secretary, P Ravikumar, police commissioner, Kamal Pant, transport department officials and other officials.

Initially, he held meeting about the transport workers agitation, before he held meeting on COVID19 situation. He decided to get minute by minute information on the availability of beds in private hospitals. He asked the officials to keep regularly in touch with the union health minister on a continuous basis on the issue of COVID vaccine shortage. He told the officials to get vaccines as per requirement and advised the police to tighten enforcement of night curfew. He also wanted more tests to be conducted in micro containment zones.

He said that COVID rules need to be strictly implemented and directed the officials to take stern steps against the violators. He said emphasis should be on finding out violators. He said that depending on the situation, a decision on extending the night curfew will be taken. He opined that a final decision can be taken after obtaining the members of the task force. He advised the officials to regularly get information about people who are infected and are on isolation at home. He added that rules should be implemented without any relaxation.

The CM also held discussions about the transport strike and ordered the officials to provide security to those workers who attend work. He wanted stern steps to be taken against those who damage the government vehicles and attack the on duty workers. He stressed that it is impossible to implement sixth pay commission recommendations and wanted the concerned to convince the workers about it. He also asked the department to provide a constable for every bus if there is a need, as attacks are being launched against the workers who have not joined the strike.
