Bengaluru, Apr 14: Despite the spike in the Corona infection cases in Karnataka and the decision of the neighbouring Maharashtra government on imposing State-wide curfew to tackle the surge in cases, Karnataka has no plans to clamp any kind of lockdown as of now, said Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters at Humnabad in Bidar district in between the election campaign for the ruling BJP candidate, the Home Minister said the people have to fully cooperate with the efforts of the State Government in implementing the Covid containment guidelines issued and strictly adhere to the norms of compulsory wearing of masks, maintaining social distancing and sanitization.

“There is no proposal of imposing any lockdown in front of the government,’’ the minister said.

Bommai, who is also handling the Law and Parliamentary Affairs Department, said the people have to be vigilant and follow all the norms of precautions.

“I have given strict instructions to the police to implement the Corona guidelines without any leniency,’’ he said.

The Minister said the State Government has no plans to enforce any kind of lockdowns as of now. “Lockdowns during the weekends or any other action to contain the pandemic will depend on the situation,’’ he said pointing out that the State Government was hopeful of containing spread of the pandemic with the cooperation and support of the people.
