Mangalore, Aug 1: Department of Paediatrics and Community Medicine, A J Institute of Medical Sciences, here in association with Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP), D K branch jointly organized the ‘ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) Day’ at the premises of the hospital on Thursday July 29.

Dr Subba Rao, former president of IAP, Karnataka and Dr Jayaram, professor and head of the department of community medicine were the chief guests. Dr Santhosh Soans, professor and head of the department of paediatrics and vice-president, central IAP presided.

ORS Day related activities like quiz for medical students, correct ORS preparation competition for mothers and nursing students, poster competition and seminar on ORS were held on the occasion.

Dr Chandrashekar G S, secretary of IAP, DK branch gave a detailed explanation on the burden of diarrheal diseases and suggested all paediatricians and general parishioners to include ORS in their prescriptions for diarrhea.

Dr Subba Rao informed that ORS is a simple, inexpensive and life-saving drug that prevents dehydration and death among small children. Dr Jayaram explained the right method of preparing ORS solution and requested all parents to keep ORS at home, particularly during diarrheal season.
