Mysuru, Apr 20: A court here held hearing, examined witnesses and delivered verdict in 42 days from the date of registration of the case in the court. The special court dealing in cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act achieved this feat when dealing with a case of raping a nine-year-old.
The court awarded a 20 year sentence to the accused after holding him guilty and ordered payment of seven lac rupees to the girl by way of compensation. Charge sheet in this case had been filed on March 6.
The incident happened on December 19, 2020, within the limits of Hullanahalli police station in Nanjangud taluk. The girl, a third standard student, was playing in front of her grandmother's house when the accused enticed her with the offer of chocolates, led her away and raped her. He was also charged with destruction of evidence as the clothes of the girl had been burnt. Hullanahalli police had conducted the investigation and filed charge sheet in the court.
Judge of the special POCSO court, B S Jayashree, conducted the hearing, examined witnesses and recorded statement of the accused. Special public prosecutor M S Manjula, had appeared on behalf of the prosecution.
