Mumbai: Two arrested for issuing fake Covid certificates to air travellers

Mumbai, Apr 21: Two persons were arrested by the city crime branch for issuing fake Covid test reports mostly to fliers, both domestic and international.

Bilal Shaikh (24) and Rashid Shaikh (32) were taken into custody by Unit X from Jogeshwari where fake reports were also recovered. Bilal has a diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology Management, is an assistant in a private laboratory, while Rashid works at a trauma care hospital. Both were booked for cheating, forgery and criminal breach of trust.

Wahid Pathan, sub-inspector and Kiran Londe, inspector received information of fake certificates being sold and raided a house in Abbas chawl in Jogeshwari where the two were arrested. Police said that the two tampered reports from two laboratories. "It transpired they were altering names and patient details on Photoshop and selling these reports for Rs 800-1,000," DCP Akbar Pathan said in a month they sold 105 such fake reports.
