Dubai, Apr 22: An Arab national was arrested by the Dubai police for seeking alms on WhatsApp. A top official has urged citizens not to respond to such calls as they could be fraudulent.

Especially during the month of Ramadan, beggars use social media to sell sob stories, the official said.

The UAE Public Prosecution had on Tuesday warned that professional gangs of beggars or those recruiting people from outside the country to work as beggars can be fined up to Dh 100,000.
