Saudi Authorities Dismiss Rumors on Zamzam Water

JEDDAH, Aug 5 (Arab News): The Presidency of the Two Holy Mosques Affairs dismissed reports on Wednesday that Zamzam water from the sacred well might not be clean or hygienic and maintained that its distribution was being monitored round the clock.

“Utmost care is given to the blessed Zamzam water. The pumping of water out of the well is being monitored regularly,” a presidency spokesman told Arab News.

He added random samples were constantly taken from the well and checked to make sure that the water was fit for human consumption. “We also take samples from the containers and check them,” it added.

The presidency asked citizens and foreigners to ensure that holy water was being hygienically stored, as leaving it in the sun could contaminate it.

The blessed water is pumped out of the historic well via stainless steel pipes and filtered using ultraviolet technology. It is then transported to the cooling stations before it is distributed.

In my opinion Faith is the base for our spiritual beliefs.Faith in simple terms to me, means belief in God and related spiritual matters, without asking for evidence and proof.

Zamzam is one such thing, the water which is considered as blessed as mentioned in the above report as well.

In my opinion this water does not require testing and should not be tested to know whether it is clean or hygienic. Because, that is what makes this water different from that of other well waters.

The water when tested by those having no faith, even though may say it is not hygienic, yet the blessings of the God, does not harm the person who drinks it with faith. That IS THE speciality of it, which some people fail to understand.

If we go for testing, the very purpose of our faith is lost. I was surprised to know from the above report the Zamzam water is filtered using ultraviolet technology, since I was under the impression that Zamzam water was taken directly from the well without subjecting it to any processing.

AS AN EYE WITNESS,THE ZAM ZAM WATER WELL AND THE COMPLETE PROCESS IS UNDER THE CUSTODY OF THE PRESIDENCY OF THE TWO HOLY MOSQUES.EXTRA CARE IS TAKEN BY THIS AUTHORITY TO PRESERVE THE WATER NATURAL AND HYGIENIC BEFORE DELIVERING TO THE PEOPLE.IT IS RECOMMENDED TO FILL THE WATER BY SELF INSTEAD OF BUYING FROM THE SELLERS OUTSIDE,AS THEY ARE KEEPING IN THE SUN FOR DAYS AND IT COULD BECOME CONTAMINATED.
