Mangaluru: Academic activities restrained - Private institutions continue classes clandestinely

Mangaluru, Apr 24: In order to bring the deadly coronavirus infection under control, the government has issued stern measures. It has brought to a standstill educational activities. But a few schools and private colleges continue to conduct classes and other activities secretly.

Deputy director of PU, Dakshina Kannada, Muhammed Imtiaz, said that there are reports that several colleges holding classes for their students in a clandestine way. He said that coaching classes cannot be held till May 4. Still, he said that strict action will be taken against the violators. He stated that based on the findings, educational institutions violating the rule will face penal action.

"Some medical and para medical colleges and PU colleges in the city and outskirts have reportedly asked the students to attend classes. We have found photographs of the activities and also students going to classes have been published," he said. He added that the principals and administration will be held accountable and that the district administration will take action as per the National Disaster Management Act.

"It is observed that students are retained in the student hostels for the purpose of conducting classes for them. It is said that many have not been permitted to return home. We have instructed them to permit interested students to be allowed to return. We have noted that lecturers are asked to conduct classes in the colleges. We will take action against them," warned Bhagawant Kattimani, deputy director of PU education, Udupi.

    Government officials as usual target the common man instead of the higher up's. They take money from higher up's and let them go scot free. The innocent teachers are targeted. The teachers are threatened by the institutions to come and take classes if not their salary will be cut or they will be terminated from their jobs. In this time of pandemic with half salary from institutions what is the teacher supposed to do? Please grow some brains and use it.

    There are two angles in this matter. 1) If a lecturer/teacher/student found travelling to educational institute for attending/conducting classes, and caught by the police what should he say about his travel? If fined, do school/college management give compensation to such fined student/teacher? If an institution wishes to run classes amid restrictions, the management should approach concerned authority with the details of its arrangements to decrease the spread of disease and get permission to run classes. 2) By Covod outbreak, educational are hit hard. The govt/authorities have taken a so called nice decision to cancel the exams. And, in other hand, all other activities including business, elections, festivals are running smoothly without any breaks. So there is nothing special if a school wants to run its activities. Why does govt doesnot seek covid -ve certificate to voters and election rally participants? As per my openion, the govt should take steps to keep educational activities running with all precautions and support private school teachers financially during covid.

    Sadly in Mangalore all teaching and non teaching staff have been asked to report to work despite many testing positive. They are not given the option of working from home. Its absolutely true that people love money and use people for their selfish desires. The higher authorities should take action. Even teaching and non teaching staff are humans, they have families. Already there is news of some teachers have died due to covid in other states. Hope good sense prevails

    I alongwith my friends really feel pity for the teachers/lectures. They too have families to look after. Chances are more for them to get infected. Its not easy. Concerned authorities, please wake up and show mercy on our teachers....

    The Government has issued instruction for the closure of teaching institutions for a specific purpose of helping the public under the prevailing conditions. It is stated that some medical and para medical colleges and PU colleges in the city and outskirts have reportedly asked the students to attend classes. It is said that photographs of the activities and also students going to classes have been published, It is expedient that rules in the interest of the public are strictly adhered to
