B'lore: DK, Udupi MPs Meet Union Ministers, Place Demands

Bangalore, Aug 5: Members of Parliament D V Sadananda Gowda (Udupi) and Nalin Kumar Katil (Dakshina Kannada) met union minister for agriculture Sharad Pawar in New Delhi on Thursday August 5 to discuss matters related to arecanut growers.

They entreated Pawar to consider a raise in the price support for arecanut and  urged him to put an end to its import from the neighbouring countries, in addition to taking necessary steps to curb its illegal entry at the borders. Apart from this, they recommended the announcement of a suitable package for arecanut growers.

Gowda and Katil along with Uttara Kannada MP Ananth Kumar Hegde also met union minister for railways K H Muniyappa in New Delhi on the same day and demanded that train number 6517/6518 be extended upto Karwar. They also urged him to extend the Mumbai-Karwar train up to Mangalore.

    Very good initiative by two MPs. Mr.Nalin and Mr.Gowda,both of you are from arecanut belt and very well know the plight of arecanut growers.Large segnment of Puttur and Belthangady taluk are wholly dependent on arecanut crop and support price should be increased considerably keeping in mind the cost of production.

    I wish to convey this message to our MPs through daiji ,to please take up the issue of BC Road -surathkal highway upgrade project ..the pathetic planning ..low quality over- bridges ...The bykampady railway overbridge issue ..etc ..
