Mamata emerges as contender on national political stage

New Delhi, May 3 (IANS): After winning a bitterly-fought battle with the BJP to record her third successive victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee seems to have emerged as a formidable challenge to the Centre's ruling party.

With leaders of different regional parties, including NCP chief Sharad Pawar, sending her congratulatory messages, the message from the Assembly election is clear that Banerjee is capable of taking the challenge of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah and combating it successfully.

However, the Congress, which was expected to win at least two states but could not do, failing to wrest Assam from the BJP and Kerala from the Left, still insists that it is the only option to BJP.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said: "Congress is the sole national party which is alternative to the BJP as it is fighting BJP in all the states."

But the messages from the leaders of regional parties indicate that Banerjee, whose Trinamool which was once part of the UPA, has shown her mettle by single-handedly defeating the BJP and in a convincing manner.

The poll results show that people of West Bengal have rejected the Bharatiya Janata Party's attempt to polarise the elections. The BJP, which had left no stone unturned to dislodge the Banerjee government, could not cross a three-digit figure despite its claims of getting 200-plus seats out of the state's 294.

The reason behind Banerjee's masterful performance was admitted by a BJP leader, who said that their leadership "failed to understand the pulse of Bengal and its culture". "And that is the reason despite leading in 121 Assembly constituencies in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, we are facing difficulties in winning over 100 seats in less than a two-year period."

"People rejected politics of polarisation or communal politics. Muslim votes polarised in favour of the Trinamool while the Bengali Hindu also rejected communal politics and voted for the Trinamool," the BJP leader said.

I tend to disagree. Mamata lost her constituency , I dont think that she will be the CM from what I read or hear on TV. Moreover she is just limited to Bengal due to her appeasement of illegal immigrants that forms her strong vote base. Bengal is not heaven . The alarming sign is , BJP is making inroads and will be a strong opposition that will be even tougher for her. I wonder when will Congress learn to fight light this. Its literally wiped out everywhere. but still see RaGa as a strong contender for the PM and re-re-re- launch him for the 30th time.

..look at ever changing contenders. Rahul, Priyanka, Akhilesh, then drama master Kejriwal, now all over Mamata. but they wont say TN/Kerala/WB/Puducheri not BJP field/hardly had any presence. if there is any BJP/MODI waves then Assam shud lost. national media wont show Assam results, where strong anti CAA protest fueled, Rahul /Priyanka did really hard campaign , even Congress CMs of the states campaigned very hard. if its really anti BJP/MODI mood then BJP shud have lost. But won . BJP leadership has to face multiple challenges of corona, fake farm protest, propaganda/lies.. BJP is not strong in WB, no local face, But won above 80 seats compared to negligible seats in last election. thankfully no one blames EVM,EC now..

As much as I like the fact the mamta won Bengal I just can't see her in the national level. It'll just be a mess. Look at Bengal it's poor filthy and she just doesn't care what will India be under her leadership?! Bengal is run by goons not doubt yesterday houses were burnt in bengal as "celebration" the amount of illegal immigrants she let's in will be huge. Congress are sitting in the coffin it's high time they get up before its closed.

And make Entire India like Bengal ? Poor ,Violent and filled with Muslims from Bengal .. We know why Pappu was silent in bengal election campaign ..He did not want to split TMC Votes .. The BJP made some mistakes ..But still got 70+ votes and 40 percent votes ..From 3 to reach 40 is something... The UPA alliance we have seen in the past ..How things unfolded ..Devegowda ,Pawar ,Didi,Sonia .. Anyways I dont have any preference of political parties ,I am just saying from ground situation .. All that we saw during UPA was 1) No cash in ATM ,No Gas ,No Coal for UPCL ,Roads and highway filled with potholes ,Corruption at all levels 3 G SCAM ,4G SCAM , Minority appeaseement..and all that .. Anyways good luck to the voters and people of India 30% of minorities control the 80% of hindus who are I term struggling from internal division and do not to see the dividends of being united.
