Moodbidri, Aug 8:
A newly-wed woman committed suicide by jumping into an open well on the night of Saturday August 7 at Karinje–Kukkebettu, near Virava.

Her husband drowned while trying to save her. The deceased are Seema and Satish, who were married in May.  It was an arranged marriage and Satish was a tempo driver and a resident of Alangar, who used to stay at his father-in-law’s house on the weekends.

Sources informed that a minor altercation between the couple was reported during the meal at about 10.15 pm on Saturday. Seema walked out and jumped into the open well in their compound.

The locals were shocked over the death of the couple as such grave incidents are very rare in the locality.

The mortal remains of the couple were cremated at the city crematorium on Sunday August 8.

The town police have registered a case in this regard.
