Mangalore, Aug 8: A bakery employee was crushed to death in a lift of the building, owned by a bakery at Kankanady here on Sunday August 8.

The deceased has been identified as twenty-six-year old Vajesh, a native of Koilandi in Kerala. He was working as a baker with Cochin Bakery at Kankanady here. The tragedy occurred when Vajesh was going
up in the lift from kitchen to the first floor of the bakery in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, the fire fighters from city struggled for nearly four hours to retrieve the body of the deceased Vajesh and succeeded by Sunday evening.

Police sources suspect the faulty lift installed at C B Towers did not give an option to open the door in an emergency or reach the ground floor smoothly by itself or at the opening of next floor. Kadri police
registered a case in this regard and investigations are underway.

My god, very sad event. How horrifying his last moments must have been. Cant imagine what kind of lift this might have been. May be no maintenence at all. The management must be made to pay for the loss of his life. May his soul rest in peace.

This is another instance of how we tolerate the unsafe conditions. We blame the destiny and keep loosing valuable lives. How can a lift be installed without safety sensors. Irony is that none raises voice against lack of Engineerinng and safety norms in building construction, road construction?? Wonder if concerned officials knows about such norms!! Culprits who caused this death of youth must be punished.

    God Bless this poor worker.
Can someone with some technical know how on lifts come forward with his comments and recommendations to initiate some way for an healthy debate on the subject in order that these type of accidents do not occur again. Why this is happening only in India that too in Mangalore. In places like Dubai there are hundreds of lifts installed in thousands of small and big buildings and I am yet to come across even one incident of this kind. I wonder Why !!
