Parliament Expresses Grief over Leh Flood Deaths


New Delhi, Aug 9 (IANS): Parliament Monday expressed sorrow over the loss of lives in the flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir's Leh region.

Over 150 were killed and around 500 are missing after cloudburst caused flash floods Friday.

Expressing solidarity with the people of the region, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Hamid Ansari described the loss as sad and tragic.

Parliament was informed that relief efforts were being taken up on a war footing.

Members in both houses observed silence as a mark of respect to the dead.
