Mumbai: 26 year old undertrial at Taloja prison dies of Covid

Mumbai, May 7: A 26-year-old undertrial of Taloja jail died due to Covid while undergoing treatment at Saint George hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday, May 5. In 2018, The deceased was arrested by the Bhiwandi police for allegedly raping a minor girl and was lodged at Taloja prison since then. He was booked under section 376 and Pocso Act, informed Taloja jail superintendent Kaustubh Kurlekar.

“He was suffering from asthama and hypertension and on May 1, he fell sick. On May 2, he was sent to JJ hospital for treatment where they did his RT-PCR test and the report was Covid positive.

He was shifted to Saint George hospital’s Covid ward, where he succumbed on Wednesday morning.”
