Dammam, Aug 10: Shirva Welfare Association (SWA), Dammam, successfully conducted the “5th Shirva Summer Cup–2010” cricket tournament featuring 24 teams from Dammam, Khobar, and Jubail, at Rakah Grounds near Dhahran Exhibitions, in the city recently.
The event was sponsored by the Al Anwaar Group–Al Khobar. Amaco Jubail defeated Blue Line Jubail by 30 runs in the finals to win the trophy.
After the finals, a prize distribution function was organized in which Zubair Ali, treasurer of SWA, welcomed the guests and prescribed a detailed activity report of SWA and the 5th Shirva Summer Cup–2010.
‘Man of the Tournament’ went to Imran of Amaco for his outstanding batting and bowling performances. ‘Best Batsman’ award went to Shakeel of Al Anwaar Trading, while ‘Best Bowler’ title went to Tafseer of Amaco. Salman of Panorama was adjudged ‘Best Outfielder’ while Qayyum of Blue Lines was selected ‘Best Wicket-keeper’.
Ravi Karkera of MASA, was the chief guest, who in his brief speech praised the efforts taken by Shirva Welfare Association for the cause of the community.
Sponsors of this tournament Mohammed Haneef Patel and Salauddin Salman distributed trophies to the winners and runners-up.
Mohammed Hussain (Ammi), president, Shirva Welfare Association, presented mementos to the sponsors, co-sponsors and invited guests and appreciated the efforts and hard work of all the members of SWA.
Ashok Patel, president, Dammam Cricket Association( DCA), Asif of Amaco, Mohammed Iqbal of Zamil, Eithesham of KCC, Imran Karkala, Raj Gopal of Zamil, Sharief Karkala, Ahmed Bava Shabu of YWA, Sharief of Colts Crickers, Gopal Shetty of CBC, and many other guests were present at the function.
Mohammed Siraj of SWA proposed the vote of thanks to everyone for their help and whole-hearted support during the tournament for the benefit of the poor and needy people of the coastal villages of Shirva, Udupi, and Mangalore in Karnataka.
