Mangaluru, May 7: “The decision of the district administration to permit purchase of essential commodities only between 6 am and 9 am with effect from May 7 is totally confusing. People are facing problems because of the sudden action,” said Youth JD(S) president Akshith Suvarna.

“The district in charge minister and MLA have announced the new restrictions setting aside the rules announced by the state government earlier without any prior information to the people. The district in charge minister only called the ruling party leaders and kept the opposition party at bay while taking the decision. It is not right. The government had earlier permitted grocery shops to conduct business till 12 pm. But the district administration has restricted it to 9 am. It has devastated the traders who were already struggling without business due to Coronavirus pandemic.

“Police personnel also are harassing people in the name of new regulations. Even ordinary businessmen are facing hardships. Construction work is permitted even though commodities can be bought only till 9 am. But the rule that construction workers from outside cannot be hired has further confused the people. Police personnel are also stopping construction company vehicles hindering the work. Therefore, the district administration should take suitable corrective action,” he urged.
