BJP Demands Action against Kalmadi

New Delhi, Aug 10 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday demanded action against the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi over alleged irregularities concerning the showpiece event.

"Action should be taken against him (Kalmadi)," BJP leader Gopinath Munde told reporters.

Answering questions, he said that since Kalmadi had ruled out resigning, action should be taken against him.

Munde also expressed dissatisfaction over the reply of Sports Minister M.S. Gill in the Lok Sabha to the debate concerning delay in preparation for the Oct 3-14 Games.

He said the BJP had sought a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the alleged corruption in the Games but the minister did not say how he would deal with the wrongdoings.

"Till the time we walked out (of the Lok Sabha), the minister did not give a satisfactory reply," Munde said.

The BJP staged a walkout from the house during the minister's reply.

Munde said people wanted an answer to the widespread perception of corruption in the Games projects.

He said that the minister's suggestion that the government would reply to a Right to Information (RTI) query from members on the CWG allegations was a violation of their rights as MPs.

He also rebutted allegations of the BJP being soft on Kalmadi during the debate in the house on the Games.

"There is no relation between Kalmadi and the BJP," he said, adding that anybody who has done wrong should face action.
