Udupi, Aug 11: Policemen led by the Tahsildar seized a truck carrying wheat meant for public distribution which was instead being diverted to some agents in Mangalore, at Kaup, near here, on Monday August 9.  The policemen also arrested three persons who were inside the truck.

The arrested are Vinayaka Shenoy, resident of Yeyyady in Mangalore, and Sundar and Dinesh, both residents of Neermarga in Mangalore.

The truck was loaded with wheat from the depot of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) at Perampalli, here, to deliver it to a ration shop in Bhatkal, Uttar Karnataka.

After receiving a tip-off that the truck carrying the load of wheat was likely to be diverted to Mangalore, the inspector of the FCI depot accompanied by Tahsildar Prasanna kept watch and spotted the truck suspiciously moving on the interior roads of Kaup, away from NH 17.  With the help of local police, they seized the truck and made the arrests.

The truck was loaded with 266 sacks of wheat costing nearly Rs 2 lac. Initial investigations revealed that the accused had planned to deliver the stock to some agent in Mangalore and cheat the civil and public distribution department of the state.

Kaup police registered a case in this regard and investigations are underway.
