Udupi: Covid norms thrown to wind as people flock vaccination centre

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (HB/EP)

Udupi, May 10: The vaccination centre which was recently shifted to St Cecily’s school here at Brahmagiri considering the large number of people arriving for vaccination. People including senior citizens were seen queuing up throwing the social distancing norms to winds.

Vaccines for people between 18 and 44 years are being administered at four places in the district from Monday May 10. District health officer Dr Sudhir Chandra Sooda had said that vaccinations will be given only to people who have registered and reserved a slot. But senior citizens also have stood up in line in anticipation of the second dose on Monday morning.

Vaccination drive at Udupi district hospital, St Cecily’s School, Kundapur taluk hospital and Karkala hospital will begin from Tuesday afternoon. SMS was sent to people who had registered for vaccination this morning. Though the message stated that only who received the message could come for the vaccination, people were seen flocking for it.

People above 45 years who had received the first dose were on their toes for the second dose. The vaccinations supplied now are not at all sufficient. The people here do not seem to listen to the directions of the health department.

There are 1.5 lac people between the ages of 18 to 44 years in the district. Therefore, four lac to five lac doses are required for them.

First of all there is no proper guidance and information about the availability of the number of vaccines to be given for the day. There was an large queue outside the school including old aged people and students . There were people who had come at 6am to get the vaccine. The vaccination only started at 9:30am..... Well no complaints on that.. but waiting on line for so long and still not getting the vaccine is very unfortunate and saddening. People above 50+ had to bear a lot. There were people who had come without having any food in the morning and to go back... Some of them were coming from past 2 to 3 days to get the vaccine left home without the availability. It is also frustrating waiting and not getting the vaccine.. Well barricades have been installed near the school for "No Vechile Entry" but what about "Wheel chair facility" . With no wheel chair around some of them had to face a rather tough task to walk to the school. Rather than creating confusion, I please request the authority to look into this matter and make a better arrangements.

The second wave has savagely mauled citizens across our nation... Netas, callously displaced disdain, towards the epidemic in Europe and other continents.. This false, erroneous pride, has brutally devastated every Indian... The vaccine was demonized by many politicians, few citizens dared to get themselves vaccinated.. The impending third wave, has caused panic, turbulence across India !!!

Hello, why are you blaming the school? I don't think school has arranged it. It's the utter failure of your beloved BJP from local level to national level. The D.C might have asked the school to give its campus and in such times, schools can not say no. So, better tackle your D. C and your beloved NAMO and stop blaming schools, health workers or police.

When the government asking people to get vaccinated from past 5 months nobody was willing to take it. Most of the people were reluctant to take the vaccine. Now everybody wants to get vaccinated on priority basis when there is a shortage of vaccine. Now people realised the value of the vaccine.

@ Vicky, Damaskatte "When India thinks to develop anything...have many intelligent people around. Can fulfill requirement without much trouble." We all know the facts very well but one who executes orders and in administrative powers is a bit careless or wayward and do not seem to be prompt in executing with due importance. What is solution for that ? BJP cannot afford to lose. Their motto is expansionism.

It is a anti cancer medicine which is repurposed to treat Covid- think 10 times before using it, esp. if you are in the reproductive age group.

Please wait for a month. Government is going to launch DRDO 2DG Anti Covid medicene which is much effective than others. Results are good. Now no need to depend upon America, UK, Sweden, Switzerland or any other european countries. Now no more wabts to depend upon oxygen shortage. This medicene works as a substitute. When India thinks to develop anything...have many intelligent people around. Can fulfill requirement without much trouble.

Vicky yes you are right but that is not a anti covid medicine. That helps in people recovering from covid. You can still get covid. It only helps in reducing the severity. Vaccine will make your body ready for the virus and will avoid hospitalisation. In both cases it's good but drdo's will help people who are serious..

"Anti-COVID-19 2-DG drug developed by DRDO was first studied by Patanjali, claims Acharya Balkrishna" Do you guys remember that IMA strongly objected about central government permitting ayurvedic doctors to perform surgery? Similarly Patanjali studying DRDO drug. Can't stop laughing. I can imagine the end results ;) Ghodon ki race mein gadhe bhi daud rahe hain.

This vaccination drive is a total confusion, when the Government started for citizens 60+ without completing the vaccination for them how they started for 45+ and now without completing the vaccination for the 45+ started for 18-44 which is a huge population. Looks like the Government not only at the center is puzzled the one at the state to is doubly. Big Gadbad......... !!!

On the Cowin website the vac centers, the type of vaccine ,free or paid, age groups are clearly mentioned. One should register first, book an appointment slot, you get a 4 digit security code. With the code, mobile and Aadhaar if you go to the vac center there would hardly be any queue if people do not unnecessarily rush there. It is better and safer to stay away from crowds and wait patiently at home.
