Priyanka Gandhi slams govt over Central Vista project

New Delhi, May 10 (IANS): Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday attacked the Narendra Modi-led Union government over the Central Vista project and questioned the expenditure being made on a new residence for the Prime Minister when the amount could be utilised for providing Covid related medical assistance.

"PM's new residence & Central vista cost = Rs 20,000 cr = 62 crore vaccine doses = 22 crore Remdesvir vials = 3 crore 10 litre oxygen cylinders = 13 AIIMS with a total of 12,000 beds. WHY?," Priyanka tweeted.

The government has brought the construction work for the ambitious Central Vista project under the ambit of "essential services" to ensure smooth movement of labourers during the ongoing lockdown in Delhi.

Both Priyanka and her brother Rahul Gandhi have been critical of the Central Viata project, saying that it shouldn't be continued at a time when the country is reeling under the Covid pandemic with many people complaining of not getting hospital beds, Covod vaccines, oxygen cylinders and life-saving drugs.

Modi continuing spending money on the Central Vista project and his new palace home despite receiving huge aid from countries and donors internationally for Covid relief. Doesn't this remind you of Pakistan which begs aid and loans for economic development but continues to spend on nukes and its military ?

Chaiwala PM wants to have lavish life when people are dying without oxygen. India doesn't need a central vista project, when 23 crore citizens this county plunge into poverty due to BJP govt failure. Who will answer them and feed them now.

Central Vista project was envisaged and recommended by Jairam Ramesh, then Environmental Minister with Manmoun Singh during 2009, erstwhile UPA 1 Govt. What Modi is doing is IMPLEMENTING this project as UPA 1 and 2 could never do. Perhaps Priyanka Robert Vadra is unaware of this and she has been trained only to rabble rouse and abuse Modi and BJP

Envisaging and recommending is different than building it especially now during challenging times when his own citizens are in dire need of money and resources. Charity begins from home not by building it. This is rubbing salt in the wounds of vulnerable. He is not mentally stable reminds Edi Amin.

In 2009 there was no pandemic and economy wasn't in doldrums. Now with the changed scenario, a sensible leader should know what his priorities are.

There is nothing wrong in the project. But the current situation is not right to go ahead with it. Whole world is helping us with life saving materials & financial help & we are going ahead with such an expensive project. PM has a residence for now, let him start the project when situation comes to normal.

Not just Priyanka and her brother. Every patriotic Indian will oppose this wasteful expenditure on this ill conceived project. Rs. 20000 crores is by no means a miniscule amount and this money could have been used for the upliftment of the poor and to build hospitals. When he has not done anything for the betterment of the people, who has given this shameless man the right to squander public money? What is wrong with the present building? I read a report in one of the foreign newspapers which clearly says the PM's residence was not part of the original plan but was stealthily slipped into the plan later. Do chowkidars need palatial bungalows to reside? The paper also goes on to say that the contract was awarded to a Gujarati company although tenders were called just as an eyewash. If people who have the interest of this country at heart continue to remain silent, I don't know what will happen to the future of this great nation of ours.

Unfortunately country is paying price for electing a person who is suffering from superiority complex, he wants his name to be written in history books and his name will make up to the history books but for all the wrong reasons. It shouldn't be forgot that people create dictators for themselves whether in Europe or Asia or Africa . For whatever has happened in India in the last few years , people of this country are equally responsible for their wrong political choice and giving country to a wrong person who divides the nation and thrives on bigotry, violence.
