Karnataka revises lockdown guidelines, Opposition calls them 'confusing'

Bengaluru, May 11 (IANS): Hitting out at the ruling BJP in Karnataka, both the main opposition parties – the Congress and the Janata Dal (S) – said on Monday that the ongoing two-week lockdown in the state is becoming more cumbersome due to the "confusing rules" introduced by the administration.

The criticism came after Karnataka revised its lockdown guidelines on Monday, which caused confusion among the residents with many complaining that they had to walk long distances just to buy essentials.

As per the new rules, private vehicles are not allowed to ply on the roads except in cases of medical emergency or to visit hospitals or healthcare centres for vaccination.

The revised guidelines have come under severe attack from people across the state, with many complaining that these rules will only increase the hardships being faced by the people.

The leader of opposition in the state Assembly, Siddaramaiah, said that more than the pandemic, people are suffering due to the "diseased administration" of the BJP.

"Lockdown guidelines are very confusing and the common man is finding them extremely difficult to follow," the Congress leader said.

Siddaramaiah added that he would not be surprised if people from the rural areas start rebelling against these unscientific and misguided administrative policy lacunae that are causing great inconvenience to the residents.

Siddaramaiah also wondered why the authorities did not consider everyone's needs while framing the rules.

He said that Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa should realise that Karnataka also exists beyond the boundaries of Bengaluru.

"What is applicable in Bengaluru may be completely irrelevant in the rural areas. This type of vision is ingrained in able administrators," he said.

Siddaramaiah also said that how can people living in the rural areas walk for 2-3 km to buy groceries, milk or other essential goods.

"How can senior citizens and others walk with goods in hand? Have our administrators framing such illogical rules lost their mind," he questioned.

On May 7, Karnataka had extended the strict lockdown across the state till May 24 starting Monday (May 10). The restrictions in the name of ‘Corona Curfew' were first announced by Yediyurappa on April 26 in an attempt to check the alarming spread of the virus in the state.

Meanwhile, Janata Dal (S) leader and former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said that it is a tragedy that the government has forgotten to take care of its people who are in distress.

"This is not the lockdown we (opposition parties) had suggested," he said.

He added that instead of easing the problems of living under a lockdown, the government has only added to the woes of the people.

"The government should look for solutions that will address the needs of the people who do not leave their homes," Kumaraswamy said.

"Karnataka should review the steps taken by the neighbouring states in this regard. People's health is just as important as their lives," he pointed out.

We have seen these knee-jerk reactions and change of rules last year too. With limited time given and long ques, lack of adequate stock We are forced to go out for minimum 4 days instead of finishing the purchasing in a single day. Tamilnadu gave 2 full days time for people to get essential supplies and prepare to stay in for the lockdown period. Our govt proved it's incompetency once again. Time for people to take them to task and give strong warning to not take us for granted. They should realise we are not slaves to obey any illogical unscientific lockdown measures, they are chosen to serve us and not to bossover us. For this reason they have no to be listening to people and do take those actions that help people and not harass them while the government is never bothered about people's welfare which conveys their actions.

What do you mean to say. That government should put lockdown which is only on paper. And by this means the pandemic can be controlled. FYI tha lockdown was suggested by the opposition itself. It seems like we want to be free from corona but also should be allowed freely to roam.

In Mumbai people are allowed to take their cars to buy essentials even during lockdown.Unfortunately the low tech ministers residing in high tech city Bangalore don't have common sense to even adopt measures which are working well for people elsewhere.

The next time there is a lockdown (and believe you me, there will be many more of these) no one will take it seriously anymore because the gov has made a farce out of this. First you hurt people and on top of it you make a mockery of their difficulties... good luck getting any votes next time.

What an opposition????.Now I am confused. If lock down is NOT imposed then opposition shouts ' Public lives are in danger ,Govt playing with lives' . If lock down IS imposed opposition says ' its confusing, Govt playing with livelihood of the public' . When govt rolls out vaccine opposition says 'Its a BJP vaccine , its efficiency is a doubt. let Modi take it first' . When COVID strikes back, Opposition ' Vaccines should be given free to the public'. I think Congress should meet first and start introspecting and analysing from their 2014 defeat on wards.

How to buy the Necessities of life, by walking long distance at rural areas, that also in a limited time frame. The items required also not available in one shop. Some have no stock, some have closed. What a logic not use private vehicle?

Problem is Yeddy is having aging problems. He is turning as per the wind . He has to satisfy his cha-cha sitting in Delhi & then he has to satisfy his bathijas sitting in Karnataka. Meanwhile Aunty Shobha he has to listen to her . I feel pity for him. Almighty protect him . Next we citizens are also to be blamed for not following the Covid rules . Let Govt. put rules thtsa is their job. But we also should protect ourselves sitting home not raoming around . Yes poor daily wages people are suffering where some organizations are helping but not any politicians. Thy are only for clicking pictures

He is not turning by the wind and satisfying cha cha in Delhi. Instead opposition is not leaving any stone unturned to confuse Yeddy. Yes his mistake is that he still cannot understand that he cannot make everyone happy. Also whatever is done there is for and against talking public. Time and again religion and politics always wins...
