Udupi: Church Funds Siphoned Off – Complaint Filed against Former Accountant

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Aug 14: On behalf of Milagres Church, Kallianpur near here, a complaint has been registered in Malpe police station by its priest, Fr Marcel Saldanha, against a former accountant of the church.

Joyson D’Souza from Bantwal, who had earlier worked as an accountant in the said church, is charged with defrauding the church. Reportedly, Joyson withdrew fixed deposits standing in the name of the church, by forging the signature of the priest. He was working as an accountant of the church from October 2007 to May 2008.

The former accountant allegedly got two fixed deposit receipts scanned, and kept these duplicate receipts in the church records. He used the original receipts and sealed letter heads of the church bearing forged signatures of the priest, to withdraw a sum of Rs 1,84,769 fraudulently. The money was withdrawn through Canara Bank, Kallianpur branch, it is alleged.

Qyanute, I endorse your views. Parish Priest has to solve the Parish minor issues amicably and not through media. A Priest has to be a model for other religions too. What is preaching life without forgiveness, they will ask ! Priest should find a solution, must insist to retun the money on easy installments. Or else or what Jail ?

I agree with Cutinho, Its better to find the cause for the incident and to treat in a properway insted of giving publicity. Same priest was the incharge of Shalom apartment jeppu, and I hope he too made responsible for the such case... but truth alway win...

What you have rightly mentioned, is only for preaching to others, NOT FOR PRACTISING.

To err is human but to forgive is divine. We preach, at times, it is difficult to forgive because money is involved !!!.. If the financial status of the accountant is very poor, it is an virtue on the Parish Priest part to forgive, to withdraw the complain, withdraw from publicity and sliently to compromise with the money to return in easy installments. No, I never said, offer you other cheek too !
