Udupi: DC impounds vehicles found unnecessarily moving on road

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP/JD)

Udupi, May 19: Deputy commissioner (DC) of the district, G Jagadeesha, jumped into action to enforce curfew guidelines on Wednesday May 19. Finding that several vehicles he came across were moving around without any strong reasons, he seized them. He conducted the raids in the city and Malpe area.

The DC also directed the officials to initiate action against shopkeepers who were found selling things other than the essential goods.

On Tuesday May 18, the DC had issued a stern warning to the people against unnecessarily treading the road without being backed by genuine reason. He had reiterated that the people have to necessarily visit the nearest grocery and vegetable stores by foot to procure the items needed. He had also instructed the police to strictly enforce the lockdown norms.

It may be recalled that Jagadeesha had conducted a similar raid on buses found overcrowded near Santhekatte here on April 19 and made the passengers found in excess of the permitted numbers to get down. He also had acted against those who were found not wearing masks on that occasion. His action had come in for criticism particularly in the social media, as many felt that students and others who have to go to their homes located in far off villages have to take specific buses in spite of whether they are overcrowded or not, as they are not sure about getting another bus for a few hours if they miss the current one.

Definately this DC is misusing his position .It is a dam important to him what people are buying or not.He is there to control only not too many people are m oving about for nothing. He has no right to impound vehicles. And if people dont wear masks ,also to tell them to wear and not punish .what a type is he ?where he learnt all this?Simple people cant walk to market when sick.why he is moving in cr.let him take them to market and bring.when someone can afford a car ,why not? Here one is allowed to go to market even in lockdown time any time when time pass.Market is open all the day.He shouldnt make poor ones life miserable at this time.

In Mumbai, sometime back, police had prescribed different coloured stickers, on the basis of service for people who were on essential duties. One young man asked police, what colour sticker he has to use since it was essential for him to meet his girl friend.. Police replied, they understood that it was essential for him, but, they said, they checked with the manual and said it was not coming under govt prescribed essential services. However, they told him, keeping away for sometime from the loved one, increases love and said they wish him all the best in his love.

All I can say is he is not fit to be the DC of Udupi. Not wearing a mask during public function and defending that action is not signs of a leader.

You are 100% right on your statement. He just made excuses. Spoilt other people's functions just bcoz he wasn't invited. For every Angel, the Devil is behind. We can see it with his attitude.

How many High end segments cars he could seize? If he does, overnight he'll be searching for another job. If so, treatment every human being the same or else quit your post. 99% of the rich are still doing overnight rounds and drunk driving while the lower and middle class are bearing the brunt. Government officials are carrying liquor and goods for themselves while everyone is stuck in jail at home.

I am amazed at the intelligence and character of our people in Udupi. If covid is known to spread thru crowds why is DC wrong in cracking down on overcrowded buses? Who are these bird brained people who criticized a legal move for the good of all? Students cant wait? People from many countries are stranded in India. Why cant our people wait? Shame on the people of udupi for criticising him. Shame

Bird brained people is the BJP Govt. Students/Parents are continuously pleading schools, Colleges to remain shut . Still this Universities like "VTU" want students to Come and write OFFLINE exams . VTU Stands for Visvesvaraya Technology University , being TECHNOLOGY in the name, still can't conduct ONLINE exams . Lockdown is not the way to control Covid , Strict rules such as heavy fine (10k-20k fine for not wearing mask and covid +ve people roaming around etc ) / . Lockdown is fine at some point, Govt should make sure that they can help public such as Free vaccine , Discounts in Insurance/Toll gates.

Firstly Karnataka State is suffering from an ill-prepared lock-down. Teddy is the modern day Tughlaq changing decisions every now and then. As Chris rightly said, DC seems to be a person who wants to hog the limelight just like the Supreme Leader. When you have an ill-prepared lock-down and there is a DC who on one side; reported to have attended high profile wedding with dance / music and that too without mask and on the other preaching to people about Covid precautions, it is natural that people ask questions. I am really amazed to see the intelligence level of Nelson who questions the intelligence and character of people of Udupi and that too for a person who preaches one thing and practices another. And to comment about lock-down, one need not be on the expert panel for Covid management, common sense is good enough. A lock-down has to be humane just like Kerala which is imposed only after proper planning and giving adequate notice to the affected people. Food kits were being readied to be delivered at homes. Community kitchens and people's hotels have been opened. First Line & Second Line Treatment Centres set up to ensure only serious cases reach the Municipal / District Hospitals and Medical Colleges. All the educational institutes closed down. All banks working only 4 hours that too on alternate days. All grocery shops opened, but still no panic crowding at any of the shops. People encouraged to purchase through home delivery or only from the nearest shop. Also unlike Karnataka, lock-down period is used by Government to review and take further steps to set up the infrastructure such as identification of buildings for quarantine, setting up Oxygen plants. Even migrants are taken care in respect of food / health care and communications given to them in HIndi / Bengali. It is high time that Bhakths open their eyes and ears and look for the realities around.
