Mangaluru, May 20: It is a common to come across senior citizens standing in long queues in front of the fair price shops in their jurisdiction. The families normally send elders to the ration shops as youngsters are normally busy with their studies and the adults work elsewhere.

Many a time, it takes long for the shop to dispense the grains because of the problems with biometric matching. In the coastal belt of Karnataka in particular the heat and sweat become unbearable and even the young people find it hard to stand for long in queues as it hurts their knee joints.



In a welcome change, a fair price shop in Mannagudda in the city has arranged for about a hundred chairs for the persons in the queue to take rest till their turn comes. This has spared the people for the ordeal of standing for hours to collect their rations. One hopes that more ration shops will follow suit.

    The fair price shop or the ration shop are posing a threat to the citizens of Mangalore & Udupi In Udupi there is a long queee of people waiting for their chance to get the ration because of the biometrics. The ratio shop is not supported with a reliable internet connectivity They're using their mobile data which is very slow and often does not support the laptops. Due to finger print and data updating customers have to wait in que for a long time .At times they may have to go back disappointed due to no internet connection or no electricity. Requesting the government or concerned Muncipality to see the on going chaos going on in the ration shops.

    The intent is right but wont this just increase the spread given that you will be sitting on the chair sat by another and the guy sitting on 100th chair will have 99 chances of spreading infections

    Good example. However please read below "Aerosols carrying Covid-19 virus can travel in air up to 10 meters: Centre". Can we trust the 'advisory board' which provides input to the centre? Is it not the same 'advisory board' which failed to stem the 2nd wave? Did 'advisory board' notify the EC not to conduct elections and also state governments to avoid Kumbh Mela?

    Advisory board did the best they could even to the extent of stating that there will be surge in May with daily cases expected to reach 1.2 lacks per day. This we only know now.

    To save time and to avoid the trouble of biometric matching the customers should also have the registered mobile so that the OTP is faster than the biometric matching. Using the biometric matching device is also dangerous at this time of the pandemic. Customers should also have the right amount without troubling the vendor for change.
