Mangaluru, May 20: Fr Vincent Victor Menezes, former editor of well-known Konkani weekly magazine ‘Raknno’, passed away on Thursday May 20. He was 75.

Fr Vincent, son of Gregory and Magdalen Menezes, hailed from Valencia. He was ordained to priesthood on October 23, 1974.

He had served as an assistant priest in Kirem and Bejai parishes and as a parish priest in Pernal, Narampady, Miyar, Cascia, and Paldane and as resident priest in Bendore parish.

Fr Vincent had pursued his studies in journalism in Mumbai and had served as the managing editor of Konkani weekly magazine ‘Raknno’ from 1985 to 1993. He had also served as the parochial administrator in Derebail.

After his retirement in 2019, he was living at St Zuze Vaz Home in Jeppu.

Dear Menezes family, We were always proud of Fr Vincent Menezes. As a child I was proud of 3 stalwart young priest - Fe. Freddy Pereira, young Fr. Vincent Menezes and Another Fr. Vincent Rodrigues. They were an inspiration to our parish All of them were true soldiers of Christ in walk and talk Now we pray that fr Vincent and other exemplary priests who have died earlier and now many due to COVID enjoy their heavenly bliss. A well read and informed priest of his times.As a Visiting priest of St.Agnes Convent between the years 1988 - 1992 , Fr, ,used to render his beautiful homilies for the mass when I, was a hostelite at St.Agnes. Fr.Vincent Victor Menezes was a devoted priest, great preacher, voracious reader and a prolific writer. He had a wonderful memory power and known as a 'Walking Bible'. He was very kind hearted and always extended his helping hand to the needy. As an Editor of Raknno, he encouraged and groomed quite a number of young and budding Konkani writers and poets as well. He wrote some books on the menace of alcohol (Amal Saunsarant)and on superstitions(Fitisponnachea Saunsarant) Tovoll Raat Zalli etc. In short , "through Word and Pen, he served God and men." We have lost a great priest, above all a good human being. Our heartfelt condolences to all the bereaved members of the Menezes family, his friends, dear and near ones. Those were the days when we used to attend mass at the Bishop House , where Fr. Vincent Victor Menezes was the Rakhno editor. His homily (sermons ) where on day to day subjects and issues. There was a story , theme and inference in his homily. I used to wonder the way how he was starting , narrating and ending the homily . Many a times I had chance to interact with him during my holidays to Mangalore. He was a devoted priest, prolific writer and great human being . Losing such a lively priest is a big loss to our Mangalore dioceses ... May his soul rest in peace...
