Dhaka, May 22 (IANS): A Hefazat-e-Islam militant has been arrested in Dhaka over his involvement in the violent riots that were staged by the group across Bangladesh during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit earlier this year.

Monir Hossen Kashemi was arrested from the capital city's Baridhara area at around 8.45 p.m. on Friday.

Kashemi is alleged to have made anti-state remarks and instigating violence during the violent protests from March 26 to April 3.

He is also the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Bangladesh, another Islamist outfit in Bangladesh.
