Mangaluru, May 22: District Catering Owners’ Association, Shamiyana Owners’ Association, South Canara Photographers’ Association and Sounds and Lightings Owners’ Association demanded packages from the government as they too are affected due to the lockdown restrictions.

Addressing media here on Saturday May 22, South Canara Photographers’ Association Dakshina Kannada and Udupi president Shirdhar Shettigar said, “The photographers are in dire straits due to the lockdown. Last year, many photographers invested lacs of rupees on cameras, but due to the lockdown, our business is shut down and we are in trouble. We are unable to pay EMIs. On the other hand, we are receiving messages from children’s schools asking to our ward’s fees. Due to the lockdown, we are suffering.”

District Catering Owners’ Association president Anish said, “Our busy season runs only for five to six months. Lockdown was imposed during that season. We have nearly 120 people registered with over 2,000 workers. It has been difficult for us with no much orders.”

Shamiyana Owners’ Association president Bhaskar Rao said, “The government has neglected our business while announcing packages. Even last year, we were neglected. We demand a financial package from the government.”

The associations also said that the government should show concern towards them as even they have families and workers to take care. “During the last lockdown, we were completely ignored. This time around, we were expecting the government to consider us while announcing packages. But we are neglected again,” they said.

Sounds and Lightings Owners’ Association president Ashok Kumar, Venkataraya Pai, South Canara Photographers’ Association Dakshina Kannada and Udupi general secretary Harish Adyar and others were present.

Here Vicky, Mangalore has said and also our PM and FM frequently remind that only 2% of the population is paying tax. That is true. But why ? I would like to explain here. Whatever is the reason, our govt allows 60% of the population who are farmers from tax net even though, some farmers income is in crores. There are 30% people under BPL out of which 15% are farmers. Then remains, 25%. At least, 10% of of people are either unemployed or underemployed, or just living by theft and living on illegal activities. Out of the remaining 15%, 5 % of the people never work, since they get money from NRIs or PIO. 3% of population are NRI whose income outside India is not taxable. Then remains 7%. There are some small business and trade people, who do business in cash, who generally do not pay tax. In 2018, 6% of the population was paying income tax. But, with a view on election, govt in 2019, without changing the tax slab, brought people who were earning 5 lakh or below, out of tax net by giving tax rebate and by that, 4% of the people gone out of tax net. Remaining are 2 %. And they are paying tax.

Photographers association was first started in 1961, then there were only 31 Studio owners and it was started with a purpose to share work. In 1991 SKPA, South Kanara Photographers Association was developed as the photographers increased in number to around 400. At that time the proprietor of Adarsh Studio, GHS road, Shri Karunakar had a foresight and began the photographers and Videographers abyudhaya Sangha, to provide financial help to photographers and Videographers. This is embedded in byelaw 53 of Societies welfare act. Any societies or associations registered under Karnataka societies act must 1st and immediately utilise this provision to help members of association to immediately fund medical aid, financial assistance to fund loans, pay members children school fee. This should be done without delay without prejudice. I have bern recieving several complaints from photographers association members that there is selectivity in helping. This cronyism should be avoided. All needy should be helped. However with thoughts and guidance of Late Shri Karunakar, we have formed South India Photographers and Videographers Welfare society in 2000. We are ready to address immediate greviances of our members. As its non profitable organisation we don't collect membership fee. This is a group where dealers, suppliers and consumers join and help people of a particular sector.. The government has alot to attend to in times of Pandemic. Its a war time situation. As such all societies, associations should utilise funds in their reserves to distribute it equally to all active members. Am a High Court advocate since 1995. I advocate societies acts implementations. Details please WhatsApp 6369197933. Suggestion and legal advice during pandemic is absolutely free. Let us join hands and help all the needy in the photographers, caterers, shamiyana services. Societies its time to join and help ourselves.

Shankar.... You are calling it a joke whereas your statement is ridiculous to the core..... A Government package has to be inclusive and has to reach even the most underprivileged of the society..... They include everyone street side vendors, cooli workers, rickshaw drivers, cab drivers, sugar cane juice vendors, restaurants, charmuri makers, podi makers, shoemakers, cobblers, priests, businessmen, pan vendors and much much more..... Government has to take care..... If not, then what is the meaning of SABKA SAATH SABKA VIKAS...... If you agree this was just hollow sloganeering and SABKA means only Ambani, Adanis, Modis, Choksi, Mallya, then agree with you..... Else stop blabbering
