Bengaluru, May 23: Two days after the Karnataka government said that the vaccination drive for the 18-44 age group will resume on May 22, it has come forward with a new announcement. Given the confusion over the vaccination schedule in the state, the government clarified that the dates for the Covid-19 vaccination for the above age group are currently not available and that the frontline workers and priority groups in the 18-44 age group will be informed of the availability by nodal officers concerned.
The vaccination drive for discontinued for the 18-44 age group after there was a shortage in the supply of vaccines.
"For identified state Covid front line workers/vulnerable group and priority groups, the concerned will be informed of date and time of vaccination by the designated nodal officers," read the statement issued by the health department.
The state government also informed that for those who are above 45 years and need the first dose of the Covishield vaccine, the slots are available online in urban areas and onsite in rural areas. Meanwhile, those who need Covishield second dose can walk to the nearest Covid-19 vaccination centre.
In the meantime, the state government also clarified that those above 45 years looking forward to the first dose of Covaxin will have to wait as the said vaccine is unavailable. For those who are due for the second dose of the Covaxin, an SMS will be sent to beneficiaries, following which they should visit the designated Covid vaccination centre mentioned in the SMS.
Earlier in the week, the state government announced the extension of lockdown by two more weeks till June 7.
