Dikshit Announces Rs.5 Crore Relief for Leh Victims


New Delhi, Aug 18 (IANS): Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Wednesday announced assistance of Rs.5 crore for the victims of the Leh flash-floods.

Dikshit announced in the Delhi assembly that the amount would be given to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund. She described the Aug 6 flash-floods in Leh, which killed 183 people, as a "natural disaster of enormous proportion".

Pointing out that many lives had been lost and dwellings devastated, she said: "Our hearts go out to those who suffered and are still struggling to rehabilitate themselves. This contribution is towards the rebuilding work.
