Bengaluru, May 24: Karnataka education minister, Suresh Kumar, has taken a stand in favour holding second PU examinations. He was speaking at a meeting of the education ministers of all the states organized by the union ministry of human resources.

Kumar pointed out that second PU examinations form the threshold from which they enter professional education. Therefore, examinations have to be necessarily conducted for them in any of the formats. It would be apt if the process is simplified and exams are held after the covid19 becomes manageable," he stated.

Kumar said that currently the situation is not conducive because of the spread of coronavirus infection. "Once the Covid situation comes under control in Karnataka, we can give 15-20 days’ time to students and publish dates of the exams in advance. Karnataka government also plans to allow the students who fail to appear for the exams to appear for the same again in this academic year itself," he explained.

The minister explained that many have been demanding to simplify the examination process. He said that in the simplified format it needs 45 days to complete the entire examination process. "The education department at the centre has suggested holding exams for shorter durations. In spite of the prevalence of Covid, we held SSLC exams last year. On the basis of that experience, we can hold second PU exams without any problems. A suitable decision can be taken after studying the student learning, mood of the parents, suggestions of the central government and preparations by the government, by keeping in mind the future of the children," he said.

The minister added that the process of preparing question papers for the second PU examination has been completed and that the number of examination centres would be considerably increased. "We are making all preparations to hold the exams safely. If we are able to hold the exams in July, we will be able to announce the result in August. Therefore, suitable dates for competitive exams like JEE, NEET, CET, ICAR etc can be fixed in August, he suggested.
