Udupi, May 24: The Udupi Zilla Vadakara Hitharakshana Vedike has requested the district deputy commissioner to implement a complete lockdown in the district.
Office bearers of the organisation on Monday, May 24 met the DC and submitted their memorandum.
"We have seen that the public now is accustomed to new timings 6 am to 10 am in which they purchase essentials. However, it is not serving any purpose. This will not help to bring down the number of cases when there are such relaxations. We feel that unless a complete lockdown is enforced, cases will continue to rise. Most of the customers are taking an advantage of the partial lockdown and roaming around freely till 10 am every day. A person can actually buy essentials that can last for a week. But, in the current scenario, people are venturing out of their homes every day along with their families and putting themselves and their families at risk," the office-bearers said in the memorandum.
They also requested the DC to enforce complete lockdown for at least 10 days and allow three days to buy necessary items before the lockdown and ensured utmost co-operation in this regard.
On the death anniversary of Yashwanth B K, former vice president of Udupi Zilla Vadakara Hitharakshana Vedike, the organisation distributed 100 food kits to impoverished families in the district. While the Udupi press club was provided with masks and pulse oximeters.
