Mangaluru: Vincent D'Souza's successful experiment with local chicken breeds

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, May 25: There have been some cases in which the people have undertaken new ventures during the period of lockdown which many feel is depressing. One of those who thought differently and started a new venture during the lockdown period happens to be Vincent D'Souza, a staff of St Aloysius College library department, and his wife Divyajyoti. The couple has raised the business with hard work.

The couple are engaged in agriculture on a small scale. With the help of experience of having worked for self-help groups and making use of the training imparted there, the couple bought two fowls from the house of a friend to make use of the time at their disposal when the college is closed. In course of time, the number of birds increased. They then set up a coop. As they raised country breed chicken, there is demand for the cocks by the cockfight enthusiasts. The eggs which are sold at Rs 15 per egg in the market, are sold by the couple at Rs 12 each.

The couple have seen manifold increase in the income from this activity. They also grow vegetables on their terrace.

Dr Rekha, medical office of Pavoor veterinary hospital, says that Vincent couple have succeeded as they have been taking suggestions from the veterinarian and work sincerely in a field which does not demand huge investment.

Good idea .Country chicken meat is always tastier than these other breed.s also easy to rare. The one picture above left chicken looks bit sick.no feathers .whether stressed? If they place to move about outside let them free. That makes chicks will not get sick so soon and will be heavier .Only feeding inside are more tend to sick.

Well done. Shows necessity, in this case adversity, is mother of all virtues. Cockfights are illegal but selling birds to those who use them for that illegal sport may not necessarily be. Cannot discriminate or probe the end use. For all that matters, the cocks may have been sold for chicken biryani.

It is illegal and banned by the supreme Court. Call the commissioner office when you see one happening, immediately the place will be raided.
