Udupi, May 25: Shirva gram panchayat (GP) has issued strict instructions for containing the spread of Covid -19 infection within the gram panchayat limits.

K R Patkar, president of Shirva gram panchayat, and Ananthapadhmanabha Nayak, panchayat development officer, have issued strict rules which are to be followed in the panchayat limits.

Under these guidelines all kinds of vehicle movement have been banned in the Shirva town area. In addition to placing a ban on vehicular movement, the panchayat has said that no vehicles can be parked between St. Mary's College Shirva to Shirva Petrol pump for a distance of two kilometres. Those who go out for work outside panchayat limits are allowed to use vehicles with valid ID proofs.

Grocery shops, vegetable shops and fish and meat stalls can be opened till 10 am in Shirva panchayat. Only KMF milk booths and licenced milk sellers can operate, but if there are any other items sold by the seller the shop should be closed and a separate counter should be opened where only milk is sold. Wearing masks, maintaining social distance etc are to be followed without fail.

Medical and health facilities can operate for the entire day. Individual Patanjali stores can be opened.

As per Udupi district deputy commissioner’s order, Bakery and electrical shops are allowed to open on Wednesday from 6-10 am. Hotels are allowed to be kept open for parcel service only.

Apart from the above shops, no other businesses can be opened, the panchayat stated.

The panchayat has also ensured strict police checking under the leadership of Shirva police sub-inspector Shrishaila.

These measures are undertaken as many covid positive cases are being reported in Shirva and surrounding areas. The local government body hopes to bring down the number of positive cases by enforcing strict guidelines.

The entire panchayat body is supporting these causes and is working in consonance with the Covid taskforce to make it a success.

The guidelines will be in force till June 7.

If people use thier vehicle, they can reach home sooner than walking, there by reducing the risk of infection. I did not understand the logic of exempting Patanjali store from lockdown!!!!!

I still dint understand the rational behind not allowing the vehicles. If people can buy stuff from the shops what is harm in going there by a vehicle. Less time you are exposed in public area, less risk of getting covid. I have one suggestion to the Shirva Samudaya bhavana hospital. Please keep one person to sanitize the covid sample collection area after each patients swab is collected. This will definitely contribute in stopping the virus spread. Last week i went there and saw that sanitizing is not done. When i inquired, i dint get any proper response.

A very proactive President of Shirva Panchayat. Young, dynamic and always ready to help. We need such leaders. Further they should also quarantine the family members of the infected families, so that they don't go out and spread the virus to others and create trouble for everyone in the surroundings. Also if there is positive case in the family, it must be informed to neighbours.
