Bengaluru, May 25: The shortages in the supply of oxygen due to technical glitches in the supply have been effectively resolved and the state will not face any problems on availability of oxygen, health and medical education minister Dr K Sudhakar said in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters, the minister said Karnataka faced a shortage of oxygen supply from the quota for Monday and Tuesday to the tune of 286.64 metric tonnes, which was caused due to technical problems in the oxygen generation plants.

Dr Sudhakar said the resolving the problems in the supply chain of oxygen will ensure that the Covid patients will not face any problems. Available oxygen has been equitably distributed among the districts and the available surplus has also been properly distributed.

The Oxygen Express train carrying supplies from the centre to the state reached Bengaluru on Monday to ensure the availability of 130 metric tonnes of oxygen. As Bengaluru had an additional oxygen stock of 120 metric tonnes and other districts had 100 metric tonnes, the quantity has been distributed among the districts to ensure there were no problems across the state.

Meanwhile, the technical problems that occurred in the oxygen generation unit in Ballari are expected to be rectified by Tuesday night and there should not be any problems from Wednesday onwards, he said.

The centre has enhanced the stipulated quota of 1,015 metric tonnes of oxygen supply to Karnataka to 1,200 metric tonnes. As this additional quota is being allotted from neighbouring Maharashtra, there will not be any delays in transportation, he explained.

Dr Sudhakar promised to discuss the question of extending the special allowance sanctioned by the government to para-medical staff, including drivers and Group D employees with chief minister B S Yediyurappa soon.
