Beltangady, May 27: In view of the fact that 105 inmates of Seon Ashram at Neriya, Gandibagilu, have tested positive for coronavirus, MLA, Harish Poonja, visited the Ashram on Wednesday May 26. He assured full support and cooperation for maintaining the health of the Ashram inmates.
Managing trustee of the ashram, U C Poulose, said that out of 270 inmates of the ashram, 95 have been infected while 10 out of 47 employees have tested positive. He further explained that 31 more are yet to be tested, and it is found impossible to make separate arrangements for these people. "As 90 percent of the residents here are mentally ill, it is found very difficult to maintain them. The cow shelter of the Ashram has over 80 cattle that are facing fodder shortage. Therefore, he requested the legislator to provide ambulance, medicines and fodder.
The MLA assured that facilities needed would be provided through the panchayat. He promised to personally supply medicines if a list of medicines needed is provided. He said PPE kits have already been provided and if additional stock is needed, the same would be met. About the requirement of vegetables, he said he will meet local vegetable vendors. He also asked the panchayat development officer to request the dairy farmers to provide fodder to the cattle in the ashram.
Priest of Gandibagilu church, Fr Shaji Vettunthadathil, Neriya primary health centre medical officer, Dr Banishree, Neriya gram panchayat president, Vasanthi, and others were present.
