Bengaluru, May 27: The State Cabinet, at its meeting chaired by chief minister B S Yediyurappa on Thursday, has approved implementation of the ambitious Rs 96 crore project for establishing a 1 lac litre a day capacity milk processing dairy with facilities for the production of halva and heat treatment packing on Private-Public-Partnership (PPP) model at Jangamanakoppa village of Haveri district.
Briefing reporters on the decisions taken at the State Cabinet meeting, home and law minister Basavaraj Bommai said the Dharwad Milk Producers Federation will the parent body for the proposed dairy, which would fulfil the long-felt need and demand of the milk producers of the Haveri district.
The state government will be contributing a seed capital of Rs 15 crore, Bommai said.
While Dharwad Milk Producers Federation was covering four districts with 45,000 milk producer farmers as members, the Haveri district alone had 22,000 milk-producing farmers and the district produced 1 lac litres of milk a day. The establishment of the proposed dairy is expected to give a boost to milk production by at least 20 per cent in the next five years, the minister said.
Cabinet approves Hagaraga housing project:
The State Cabinet also accorded administrative approval for the Rs 63.76 crore Hagaraga housing scheme being implemented by Kalaburgi Urban Development Authority on the PPP model.
Briefing reporters after the state cabinet meeting, the mining and geology minister said the Hagaraga housing scheme will have a 50:50 partnership with the farmers, who will part with a total of 107 acres and 5 guntas of land.
A total of 17,200 applications for the house site already been received and the original proposal from the urban development commissioner involved a total cost of Rs 76 crore. The housing scheme is located within 3 km from the ring road and was considered very ideal for providing infrastructure facilities like drinking water supply, underground drainage, electricity lines etc, the minister explained.
