New Delhi, May 28: The Covid-19 restrictions which were put in place after its order on April 29 by the Centre has been extended untill June 30. The ministry said that despite cases declining, the step was taken to put a check on the spread of Covid. The decision was taken on Thursday, May 27.
Ajay Bhalla, the home secretary has written all states and UTs asking them to maintain strict rules in implementing containment and other measures in view of the declining trend in the number of new and active-daily Covid cases.
The letter quoted, "The strict implementation of containment and other measures has led to a declining trend in the number of new and active cases, across States and UTs, barring some areas in the southern and north-eastern regions.”
Futher, he added that although the number of Covid cases have declined, the number of active cases is still very high. “It is therefore important that containment measures may continue to be implemented strictly,” added the letter. The letter from the home secretary also mentioned that any relaxation by state and UTs may be considered at an appropriate time and in a graded manner after assessing the local situation requirement and resources.
Meanwhile, it asked the states and UTs to make people aware of the orders and decisions that are being taken by the state. The letter stated, “I would also advise that orders/guidelines, issued by the respective state governments/UT administrations/district authorities, for implementing containment measures, should be widely disseminated to the public and to the field functionaries, for their effective implementation.”
