Moodbidri, May 28: The Textile Merchants Association here has requested Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner to permit them to operate for six hours a day at least three days a week.
They noted that in the list of essentials pertaining to lockdown, readymade dresses manufacture has been allowed, but shops dealing in them are closed. It is observed that during the time permitted for other shops. People come in crowds without wearing masks, and without observing social distance and other guidelines. It is not right to compel textile stores to remain closed," they said in their petition.
They noted that if the shops are opened after June 7, it will result in heavy loss as rainy season begins by then. Therefore they said, they should allow textile and cloth merchants to operate at least for three days. In case it is difficult, other shops dealing in essential goods can be kept closed on the days textile shops are open," the merchants said in the memorandum addressed to the MLA and deputy commissioner of the district.
